Join Nina Magátová, a student and researcher from the University of Exeter, at the Somewhere Sauna. Originally from Slovakia, Nina’s research delves into how regular sauna users experience the sauna bathing practice itself and explores the perceived effects of a regular sauna bathing on their mental health and well-being.
We’ll begin by gathering around a cozy fire to enjoy some herbal tea as Nina shares an engaging talk with a touch of storytelling. We will talk about the history and benefits of sauna use, the personal motivations behind sauna bathing across Europe, and the unique insights from her research. You’ll also have a chance to learn about traditional practices like the Latvian Pirts, while enjoying authentic herbal tea and the warmth of a crackling fire.
Prepare for a little movement to stretch your legs and warm up during the session, and bring plenty of layers to stay cozy in the elements!
Afterward, we’ll move into the sauna to immerse ourselves in this time-honoured ritual, enhanced by the soothing aromas of essential oils.
Please bring with you to the ritual: 2 towels, 1 to sit on in the sauna and 1 for afterwards, swim wear and a vessel for water.
Limited to 12 spaces.
