Felt a sauna hat

  • The Somewhere Sauna (map)

Learn how to felt your own sauna hat using local sheep fleece with local natural crafter. We will be crafting looking over the beautiful Mothercombe Bay and testing our handmade hats in the Somewhere Sauna. We will spend two hours around the fire, learning about the ancient technique of wet felting, designing and making our hat through a process of cutting a pattern, preparing and carding wool fibers and then wet felting. When our hats are ready, we will enjoy an hour sauna, experiencing how they help to regulate temperature and protect our ears and hair.

About the facilitator: Juliet is a nature connection facilitator, youth mentor, community activist and wildcrafter. After finishing an MA in Engaged Ecology, she initiated - The Craft That Reconnects. Motivated by the power of ancient crafts, she teaches to empower and build resilient communities. She believes making with the materials that surround us awakens ritual and captures story within everyday objects. For her, natural craft develops a culture of care for our surrounds and is a necessary part of healing our relationship with the living world.

Please bring with you: warm clothes as we will spend the first two hours outside, 2 towels, 1 to sit on in the sauna and 1 for afterwards, swimwear and a vessel for water. Hot drinks will be provided.
